Hydrocele
A hydrocele is a common medical condition characterized by the accumulation of fluid within the sac that surrounds the testicle.
Overview
A hydrocele is a common medical condition characterized by the accumulation of fluid within the sac that surrounds the testicle. This sac, known as the tunica vaginalis, normally contains a small amount of fluid that helps lubricate the testicle. However, when excess fluid builds up, it can lead to the formation of a hydrocele.
Hydroceles are typically painless and are most commonly found in newborns, but they can also affect older males.
Hydrocele is a common condition characterized by the accumulation of fluid around the testicle within the tunica vaginalis sac.
It is typically painless and can be present at birth or develop later in life due to various factors. In many cases, hydroceles resolve on their own, especially in infants.
If a hydrocele persists or causes discomfort, medical attention should be sought to determine the most appropriate treatment, which may include observation or surgical intervention.
If you suspect you have a hydrocele or have concerns about scrotal swelling, consulting a healthcare provider or urologist is advisable.
Symptoms of Hydrocele:
- Swelling: An enlarged scrotum due to the accumulation of fluid around the testicle.
- Painless: Hydroceles are usually painless, though some discomfort might occur due to the increased size and weight of the scrotum.
- Transillumination: When a flashlight is shone through the swollen scrotum, the fluid-filled sac may appear illuminated.
