Piles Treatment
Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and anus that can cause discomfort, pain, itching, and bleeding. Treatment options for piles depend on the severity of the condition and the symptoms experienced.
Overview
Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen blood vessels located in the rectum or anus that can cause discomfort, pain, and bleeding, especially during bowel movements. Treatment for piles depends on the severity and symptoms of the condition.
Piles treatment ranges from lifestyle changes and non-surgical options to minimally invasive procedures and surgery. The choice of treatment depends on the severity of the condition and the symptoms experienced. Consulting a healthcare provider is essential to determine the best course of action for your specific case.
Dietary Changes:
- Increasing fiber intake through fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can soften stools and make bowel movements more comfortable. Adequate hydration is also important to prevent constipation.
Topical Treatments:
- Over-the-counter creams, ointments, or suppositories containing ingredients like hydrocortisone, witch hazel, or lidocaine can help relieve symptoms such as itching, swelling, and pain.
Warm Baths (Sitz Baths):
- Soaking the anal area in warm water for 10-15 minutes, known as sitz baths, can help reduce swelling and provide relief.
Oral Pain Relievers:
- Non-prescription pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen may help alleviate pain and discomfort.
Stool Softeners:
- Stool softeners or fiber supplements may be recommended to prevent constipation and reduce straining during bowel movements.
Rubber Band Ligation:
- In this procedure, a healthcare professional places a small rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid, cutting off its blood supply. The hemorrhoid eventually falls off during normal bowel movements.
Sclerotherapy:
- A chemical solution is injected into the blood vessels surrounding the hemorrhoid, causing them to shrink.
Infrared Coagulation (IRC):
- Infrared light is used to coagulate or clot the blood vessels within the hemorrhoid, causing it to shrink.
Hemorrhoidectomy:
- Surgical removal of hemorrhoids may be recommended for more severe cases. This procedure is usually reserved for large, painful hemorrhoids that do not respond to other treatments.
Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy (Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids – PPH):
- This surgical procedure involves using a circular stapling device to remove excess tissue and reposition the remaining tissue to its normal position.
